Other groups

Communications Team

Coordinates the quarterly Movement magazine.

Education Group

Plans and supports learning opportunities for adults, ranging from the monthly “Sunday Forums” with guest speakers, to the Wednesday Morning Book Study to seasonal Lenten study or spirituality groups, and periodic house groups for discussion on a wide-range of topics. The group collaborates with our ecumenical partners, Greyfriars Kirk and Augustine United Church in offering occasional shared programmes.

Finance Group

Provides oversight for the management of the church’s finances, support for the Treasurer and finance team, and serves as a source of advice and counsel for the Vestry.

Liturgy and Music Group

Coordinates the planning for all worship and music at St. Columba’s, including the Sunday morning service, Christmas, Holy Week and mid-week and special services.  A separate group plans the monthly “St. C’s@Seven”.

Social Responsibility Group

Coordinates and encourages our work for peace, justice and the care of creation – both as individuals and as a congregation. Encourages and helps to facilitate volunteer opportunities in collaboration with our ecumenical partners, Greyfriars Kirk and Augustine United URC . Also maintains various avenues of support for our close neighbours in the Castlecliff Hostel which is for those awaiting permanent housing. Manages the church’s financial giving to other charities, locally, nationally or internationally.

Resources Company

The St. Columba’s Resources Co. Ltd. is the facilities management company which maintains the buildings and hall lettings on behalf of the Vestry. The Company Directors provide oversight and planning with the help of a Building Group  which looks after our buildings on a day to day basis.

Almost everyone does something

In addition to formal groups, other volunteers maintain the garden, arrange the flowers for Sunday services, organise community social events, parties, and meals; and monthly walks. The annual ‘Big Clean’ gathers many from our congregation for the sprucing up of our spaces followed by a festive lunch. In short, almost everyone at St. Columba’s does something!
