Good Friday – Liturgy of the Passion

Good Friday liturgy, when the Church remembers the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Today’s service is different from a usual Communion. On Good Friday the Church does not celebrate the Eucharist. Instead, we take part in what is traditionally called the Mass of the Pre-Sanctified, meaning that the Holy Communion we receive today was consecrated yesterday on Maundy Thursday.

This service today has three parts: the Liturgy of the Word, including the reading of the Passion; the solemn prayers for the Church and the world; and the Veneration of the Cross, followed by Holy Communion from the pre-sanctified sacrament.
